Reboot or Remake?

We are currently like in an era of film where the norm seems to be to copy a completely previously successful property and apply it to the current generation. In this day and age where media is a the ultimate tool for social interaction, the film industry utilizes this as a means to get people interested with the content the release whether for good or for bad. Lately many film studios such as Lucas Films and Universal Studios who keep repeating the same story lines that has appealed the audience greatly in the past. But are slightly adjusting a few bits here and there to make the films different from each other but ultimately it's the same story. Hollywood doesn't seem to learn it's lesson until Kevin Smith came along and decided to take matters into his own hand with his take of a remake Jay and Silent Bob: Reboot.

Kevin Smith created this film to initially make fun of the modern film industry where every popular film is the same story. Not only was he able to create clever tropes about how big studios mislead their audience for bigger profit but he was able to clearly present the power of the audience which is the biggest piece to have for any film. This film wasn't fully funded by a big studio, it was a collaboration between film executives and faithful fans. In the beginning Smith initially planned to make the film with the help of the fans through a company called Legion M where fans can provide as much funding to help with the creation of their desired films. And with Smiths history of iconic films and characters he was able to attain a massive audience to help make the film. Also a good chunk of the films budget came from the studio Saban films who normally creates content involving their property Power Rangers. But they decided to take a leap of faith with Kevin Smith to help make his movie. And it was probably the best decision they ever made outside their normal properties.

Jay and Silent Bob: Reboot was a huge success in my opinion. Of course it isn't a film that shouldn't be taken seriously like to the degree of the Academy awards. But I must say that Smith has truly outdone himself with this film. He managed to prove to Hollywood that with the right people and audience you can create a film that everyone can love. And for this film I most certainly love it.
